Word from the Coordinator
After playing Ultimate for 5 years in the VUL (Vancouver Ultimate League) it’s time to give back to my hometown. I’m really excited about the opportunity to bring Ultimate closer to home. As a Burnaby native, I really feel it’s about time that we had our own viable league. It is my hope that over the next several years that having a league in Burnaby will help alleviate some of the pressure on the VUL as well as introducing more people to this sport we love.
I have some ambitious goals for Ultimate in Burnaby, and I hope that you will take the time to come out and play. More details about the upcoming 2005 summer season as well as plans for future growth will be forthcoming with the launch of a new website soon.
Update May 4, 2005: Well some of my ambitions for Burnaby Ultimate are being realized, our first half season of Summer Hat is FULL!!! With 72 participants. The break down is as follows: 25 women, 47 men. The skill levels are: 7 x A, 19 x B, 16 x C, 2 x C+ and 28 x New. Which gives us a good balance of experience and interest. I’m already seeing about securing more fields so that we can offer more than 4 teams in the second half of the summer (there’s already 62 people registered for the second half).
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who’s expressed interest, told others about the league, or helped in anyway. People worthy of being singled out: Simon Beardmore, Craig Woods and Jeff Malmgren. There are more, but they know who they are. My thanks to you.
